Project "Reclamation" a.k.a Project "CJ4C" - part #3

 1  2  3  4  5  6

(02.08.13) I had an hour or so last night to go out and work on the Jeep. The tailgate chains had some in, so I went to tractor supply at lunch and got some connetors to put them on. These aren't 100% OEM Jeep chains, so a little modification was necessary, but all in all, they look really good.

I also removed the front "suspension". The shackles are off now as is the drop pitman arm and the new stock pitman arm is back on. All in all I am very happy that is done. It took a bit longer to get those bolts out and the rubber was pretty nasty and didn't want to come out, but it is all out. I plan on doing the rear this weekend if I get some time in between the monster storm/blizzard that is hitting the east coast.

(02.10.13) The afternoon went pretty well. Basically we had a monster blizzard here yesterday and I spent 4 hours cleaning it up. I then got up this morning and had to stay home while my wife and oldest went to a party... me and the litle one hung out until she fell asleep on me.

So, I was able to get the doors hung properly (have to paint the lowers obviously), I was able to get the rear on jackstands and the rear suspension removed and finally I got 7 of the 11 body mounts out of the Jeep, which is pretty amazing for a New England Jeep. I am not sure how the other 4 will go, but we will see tomorrow night. The shackles should be in... FINALLY... on Wednesday, so I hope to have it at least back down on all 4's and start to play with the seat belts.

(02.12.13) I was able to get the seat belts mostly installed last night. I basically used the existing holes as they were mostly stripped out from the old bolts that were in there. I drilled out the holes to accept the 7/16" bolts and then used the hardware. These are a much better mounting point and will hold a whole lot better. The seat belts themselves are fed throught he seats. We are still working on how to do the top belts, but the lap belts are in there now and are in play.

I managed to get 2 more body mount bolts out, which leaves only 2 more, but the sad news is I snapped one of the bolts. I knew it was going to easy!! Well, it was bound to happen. The shackles are all out as well, the new shackles will be here tomorrow evening along with the rear bumperettes. I have the hardware to put them on as well, so it should come along a lot in the next few days and into the weekend.

(02.13.13) Between last night and this evening, I was able to get a few things done. The main thing to note is I was able to get the orders figured out. The front and rear shackles are in and I hope to do them over the next couple nights and into the weekend. The body lift kit will be here on Friday and that will be done over the weekend, as long as I can figure out the snapped off bolt in the body from the 3" lift kit. I also received the rear bumperettes that need to be cleaned up, but my buddy Eric at JerseyJeeps.net really came through for me and sent them up when I needed them. It is always good to get OEM parts for your "Reclamation".

The front seat belts are all in... well the lap belt portions are. I am still awaiting word on what we want to do with the shoulder restraints, but all in all, I removed the front lap belts and are repurposing them for the rear. I put the front belts in place with the proper restraints, but had to drill out the original holes as they were stripped and I used their mounting hardware. They are safe now, vs. what was there. I am doing the same in the rear with the repurposed front lap belts, however, they aren't the greatest belt material. This stuff gets worn out over time. It is good for now and better than having nothing, but they should be replaced in the future.

The shackles compared next to the originals are about 1/2 the size and much beefier... and greasable. These will allow the Jeep to drive a whole lot better. I finished up the night with 2 of the bolts/attachments for the rear belts. I hope to finish them, the shackles and some other odds and ends in the next few nights.
