I just got back from working on the Jeep (10/22/05) and Jen, myself and Frank got a bunch done. After a combined 10 hours of working on the Jeep we got a bunch more done. We started out today by putting together the radiator shell with all the parts and stainless connectors on it as well as finishing up the hood with all the black powder coated trim on it. The hood was then put on the Jeep and everything was lined up and tweaked to fit right and then the front end was pretty much completed.

The bumper was located and that was put on and then we moved onto putting the rest of the fender flares on the Jeep. While that was going on, the emergency brake cable was tightened down and then new rubber feet were put on the brake and clutch pedals. Basically we went through all the boxes of stuff that we got when we bought the Jeep and found all these little things, so we started putting them on. We also were able to toss a bunch of old rust bolts and such to clean up and consolidate a bunch of the boxes. Soon, the remaining items will be put onto eBay to try to make back some of the money that was put out initially for this Jeep project.

We finished up by taping off the areas that were going to be rubber undercoated for protection in the rear area where the new gas hole was cut and then all the body mounts were socked down and finally the shifter was tweaked to get it to sit properly on the transmission. This did not work as expected. More on this later.

The windshield will go on tomorrow as will a bunch of other things to finish off the look of the Jeep. Then we will start wiring up the Jeep and put the carburetor on it and hopefully we will have a running Jeep in November. I ordered up the Jeep decals for the side of the Jeep as well as the rubber pad for the emergency brake pedal. This will be some of the finishing touches on the Jeep. Next I have to look into getting a new radiator for the Jeep as it is in need of a new one since the old one needs some work. We also might have to look into the shifter situation, as we can’t seem to get the shifter to sit nicely on the shifter linkage. Basically the end of the shifter flops around on the transmission output shaft. We will look in the forums and see what others have done to fix this issue. We got a new rubber boot or isolator as it is called, but that didn't seem to fix this problem.

The amount of boxes and piles of Jeep parts are slowly disappearing as they make their way onto the Jeep. It really is looking nice and finally coming together. After a lot of hard work and determination, this Jeep is really looking good.

I just got back from working on the Jeep and Jen, myself and Frank got a bunch more work done on the Jeep. After another combined 10 hours of working on the Jeep we are now sitting at a good stage where I have to buy a few things like the radiator, some little items like the transmission boot, emergency brake pedal cover and some decals, but all in all, we just have to wire it up and put the new carburetor on.

After that is done, the clutch linkage needs to be installed and then we should be good to fire it up. Once it is up and running, we are going to get some new rubber for the wheels and once the old rubber is removed, we will media blast the rims and they will get a coat of black paint to go with the bumblebee scheme that the Jeep is sitting in now. We were originally going to put on some aluminum diamond plate along the sides for some added protection, but they were not black and we figured that it was going to look not so good, so we opted out of them. We will look into some black rocker guards or possibly some rock rails for this.

Today we tackled the dash, the supports for the roll bar, the windshield and the rear of the Jeep near the new light cutouts received some undercoating and finally the gas door and hoses were put on and installed. The windshield got a lot of attention in that it got the defroster ducts installed as well as the bikini top windshield channel so that is all buttoned up. The final step was to put on the hinges and get it on the Jeep. After that was all done, the hold-downs were put on and this is ready to roll... over. Nah...

We cleaned up the garage a bit as well and found a bunch more stuff to put on eBay and sell to offset some more of the cost. We also found a bunch of old parts and they were consolidated so the number of boxes sitting around the Jeep is dwindling so Frank has a lot more room in his garage now!
